Cirrus Aircraft was presented with the Pursuit of Innovation award by iBASEt for the application of their Solumina Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to improve the traditional FAA Conformity process. This award recognizes Cirrus for leveraging the software in a method not used in prior applications. Aerospace & Defense companies, Medical Device manufacturers and other companies use iBASEt’s Solumina to enable collaboration and quality assurance across diverse global supplier networks.
This application was the result of collaboration with the FAA that began during the Part 23 Reorganization Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC) activity, where the goal was to increase aviation safety while reducing certification cost. The FAA Conformity process was identified as an ideal opportunity that could be improved with modern technology.
“Solumina has greatly increased our ability to process information through our build and inspection system,” said Chris Mitchell, Cirrus Aircraft Executive Director and Vision SF50 Program Manager. “So far, Solumina has reduced our build cycle time and improved our communication with the FAA regarding test article configuration.”
For the Vision SF50 program, this results in completing test airplanes earlier in the certification program while maintaining the same level of safety as the traditional FAA Conformity process.
