Best known as “Howie D” of the Backstreet Boys, Howie Dorough has spent more than three decades performing around the world. But beyond the stage, he is a husband, father, entrepreneur, and now a Cirrus pilot.
Born and raised in Orlando, Florida, Howie grew up in a close-knit family that encouraged him to chase big dreams — a mindset that eventually took him from local theater productions to one of the most successful music groups of all time. Today, he is pursuing another lifelong dream: taking flight.

Aviation has always been part of Howie’s story. His father earned his pilot certificate while working as a police officer, and for years, Howie imagined the two of them flying together. Though his father passed away before they had the chance, that dream never disappeared. Today, Howie sees flying as an opportunity to carry that connection forward — this time by sharing it with his own family and inspiring his oldest son to experience aviation alongside him.
For Howie, becoming a pilot was nearly 30 years in the making. After years of talking about learning to fly, a flight in a friend’s early-generation Cirrus SR22 finally made his dream tangible. He could see himself doing it. Soon after, he began training in a Cirrus and started turning a longtime bucket-list goal into reality.
