The Passtronaut
Raised in Alpharetta, Georgia, Josh Dobbs carved an unconventional path to becoming a professional quarterback, balancing SEC football with a degree in aerospace engineering. Nicknamed the “Passtronaut” for his sharp intellect, composure under pressure and dynamic athleticism, Dobbs has built a career defined by discipline and curiosity. Now, after years of leading on the field, he is bringing that same mindset behind the flight deck of his Cirrus SR22 G7+.
My parents introduced me to the aerospace world early.
We went down to visit the Kennedy Space Center when I was seven and saw it during peak shuttle age.
Any time we would travel, I always asked my mom, ‘Are we going to fly or are we going to drive?’ Because I always wanted to fly to watch the planes take off and land at the airport.
For as long as he can remember, Josh has been fascinated by flight. Growing up, he was the kid who wanted to fly instead of drive, memorizing aircraft types and looking for any opportunity to spend time around airplanes. While football ultimately led him to the NFL, his interest in aviation never left.
That curiosity has been a constant throughout his life. From studying aerospace engineering at the University of Tennessee while leading one of college football’s most storied programs to creating opportunities for students through the Astrordinary Dobbs Foundation, Josh has always been drawn to learning, problem-solving and finding new challenges to pursue.
